The Winnebago County ESDA (Emergency Services and Disaster Agency) oversees emergency preparedness and response in the case of any weather, chemical or nuclear emergency or disaster. Emergency and disaster preparedness and responses are coordinated with all government entities; police, fire, rescue, public works.
The ESDA Coordinator oversees civilian volunteers consisting of ESDA general volunteers, ESDA EOC staff volunteers, SERT volunteers, amateur radio operators, four wheel drive emergency weather drivers, specialized emergency hazardous material handlers, heavy duty rescue and clerical staff operation.
During the year 2013, ESDA volunteers donated hundreds of hours in the performance of assisting other agencies, training and research and other services to government agencies and the community. ESDA continued working with SERT, Winnebago County Health Department, City of Rockford, area fire departments and law enforcement agencies on developing procedures to deal with bio-hazard incidents. ESDA fully anticipates continuing this work in 2014.
The ESDA Coordinator provides the Sheriff with up-to-the-minute plans and objectives in the area of Homeland Security for the Justice Center, Public Safety Building, Courthouse, county owned property and the citizens of Winnebago County.
