Accreditation

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office was awarded re-accreditation status on March 2021, at the spring CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) Conference.  The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office received original accreditation in March, 1994, and has maintained this status through nine subsequent awards.

In addition, special recognition as a Meritorious Agency was awarded to our Agency.  Meritorious Award CALEA accredited agencies are recognized for having been accredited for 15 or more continuous years.  These agencies receive an enhanced Certificate of Meritorious Accreditation, displaying a blue “Meritorious” ribbon and an inscription proclaiming their 15 or more years of accredited status.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office received original accreditation in March, 1994, and has maintained this status through 6 subsequent awards. The Sheriff’s Office was also presented with a “Meritorious Award” for being a CALEA Accredited Agency for a period of 15 years. Internationally, less than 1000 public safety agencies possess accreditation status—the Sheriff’s Office is the 295th agency to attain this achievement.

These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns.  The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide our agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence.

IMPORTANT:  CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes.  Additionally, there will be no response other than ackowledgment of submission; however the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA Accreditation.
