On Wednesday March 26, 2014 at approximately 10:46P.M. Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies were at a home in the 500 block of Vincent Ave in regards to a disorderly conduct complaint.

 

As the deputies were preparing to leave the address a white SUV drove past the home occupied by two males in the back seat and two females in the front seat. The vehicle was pointed out to the deputies as possibly being involved in the disorderly conduct incident.

 

Deputies pulled behind the vehicle and activated their lights to stop the vehicle and the vehicle pulled over on Westmoreland just to the north of Claremont. The males in the back of the vehicle opened the rear doors and ran from the vehicle, one to the east and one to the west on Claremont.

 

The suspect that ran to the west was pursued on foot by a deputy and the suspect ran in a northwest direction. As the deputy ran after the subject the deputy was able to see that he had a handgun in his hand. The suspect at this time fired one round at the deputy. The deputy was just a short distance from the suspect. The deputy was not hit and is un-injured.

 

The pursuing deputy returned fire and struck the suspect in the legs and upper shoulder area. The deputy fired multiple rounds.

 

The suspect was determined to be 21yrs old. He was transported to a local hospital and was taken to surgery. He is under guard and expected to survive.

 

The deputy is a five year veteran of the department. He is assigned to the Patrol Division and is a member of the SWAT team.

 

Update:

The suspect who was shot by the deputy is identified as 21yr old Anthony Dominquez (DOB 5-31-92). He has most recently been living in Rockford however is from Lake Havasu City Arizona.

 

A warrant has been authorized for the following charges:

 

-Unlawful Use of a weapon by a street gang member.

-Unlawful Use of a weapon by a felon

-No Firearm Owners Identification card.

 

Dominquez has been admitted to a local hospital under guard and when released will be lodged in jail.

 

The second person who fled from the vehicle is identified as 23yr old Matt Lawrence (DOB 1-30-91).He is wanted on an un-related bench warrant. Anyone with information on his where-abouts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department (815/319-6300) or CrimeStoppers (815/9637867).

 

The deputy who was involved in the shooting is James Abate.
