On Sunday April 20, 2014 at approximately 3:46p.m. Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies and other rescue units were sent to the area of the Kiswaukee Gorge Forest Preserve, 4643 Blackhawk Rd. in reference to a body in the Kiswaukee River.
Deputies were met by a man who observed what he thought was a body in the water.
Fire Department personnel were able to recover the body. The body was removed from the river and brought into Atwood Park (New Milford) and turned over to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.
UPDATE:
The victim has been identified as Beverly J. Gritzmaker (46yrs old).
An autopsy was conducted. Test results are pending however the victim had sustained trauma to her upper body.
The death is being classified as a murder.
Winnebago County Sheriff’s Detectives are conducting the follow-up investigation.
