Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies-Machesney Park Division, were sent to 521 Tanya Ct. in Machesney Park in regards to an individual who had barricaded himself in the residence following a verbal domestic dispute. Upon arrival deputies spoke to a relative of Dale Heilman (male DOB 1/29/53, 59 yrs. old.) Additional assistance was provided by the Illinois State Police and Loves Park Police Department. Neighbors were evacuated and the SWAT team deployed. Negotiators were able to make phone contact with Heilman and spoke to him on and off for several hours and he finally gave himself up. A search of the residence was conducted and several weapons and some ammunition were recovered. Heilman was charged with Possession of Firearms and Ammunition without a Valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card and was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail with a bond of $10,000. A photo of Heilman is attached. Heilman is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
