NARRATIVE:Today, (Thursday, August 5, 2010) a team of assessors from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) surveyed areas of Winnebago County (Edgemere Terrace); Machesney Park (Shore Dr./Marquette Blvd./Liberty Blvd. neighborhoods); New Milford; and rural Winnebago County for flood damage.  This survey was based upon assessments conducted by the Winnebago County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA), the Village of Machesney Park, and Sheriff’s personnel over the past several days of those flooded areas. These state and federal officials will compile the results of their overall assessment of the area, which will be used as a basis to classify the area as a whole.  Based upon this classification a determination will be made as to what, if any, additional resources, recovery, or assistance processes may be appropriate or available to victims of the flooding.  Not all flooded areas need to be inspected and classified at this stage of the process.  Some victim properties were visually inspected though no contact with residents or homeowners could be made at the time.  If victims of the flooding did not have direct contact as part of this assessment process and assistance is made available at a later date, officials will notify any victims of the additional steps that may be required at that time.
