Narrative: Several area law enforcement agencies worked together over the weekend to conduct saturation patrols in various criminal “hot spot” locations throughout Rockford and outlying Winnebago County. Agencies that took part in the operation included The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department’s Tactical Unit, The Rockford Police Department’s M-3 Streets Team, The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, Illinois State Police, Loves Park Police, Rockford Park District Police, Roscoe Police, Village of Winnebago Police, Cherry Valley Police, and the Department of Homeland Security. Air Support was provided by State Police. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 Units were also involved in the operation. The agencies involved in this detail have agreed to conduct similar operations in the near future to resolve this community’s violent crime problems.
Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana says “On behalf of the Sheriff’s Department, I would like to thank all of the other law enforcement agencies involved in the Memorial day weekend detail. I would also like to assure the citizens of Winnebago County that these operations will continue in our efforts to combat gangs, violent crimes and illegal drug activity throughout the area.”
