Drowning/murder

 On Saturday June 4,2011 Casey Chandler Sheets (20yrs old) went over the side of a pontoon into the Rock River,in Winnebago County. His body was recovered from the river in Ogle County on Saturday June 11, 2011. An autopsy was conducted by the Ogle County Coroner on June 13,2011. Winnebago County Sheriff’s Detective’s conducted a criminal investigation into the incident and Kristopher Alan Zaugg (DOB 1-14-84) was originally charged with Reckless Conduct. On Wednesday 6-15-11 the case was presented to a Grand Jury by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. The Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Zaugg with First Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery. On Thursday 6-16-11 Zaugg, who is in the Winnebago County Jail, was served with the new charges. The charges against Zaugg are merely accusations. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in Court. A new photo of Zaugg accompanies this release.
