Fatal Accident

On Thursday August 22, 2013 at approximately 9:00P.M. Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a red Dodge Pick-up truck at East State and Dawn Ave for suspected DUI.

The driver of the truck was identified as Dennis J. Mikosz (DOB 12-2-82/Belvidere, Ill.)

While the deputies were speaking to Mikosz he fled in the vehicle and the deputies pursued him.

At the intersection of Turner and Alpine Mikosz struck a pick-up truck and continued on.

Mikosz subsequently ended up on Mulford Road (northbound) and struck a Black Chrysler Sebring. Both vehicles then struck a Ford Escape.

The driver of the Chrysler Sebring, a 54yr old female Rockford resident was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead. An autopsy will be conducted today.

Mikosz has been charged with DUI and Aggravated fleeing to elude a Peace Officer, as well as a variety of traffic charges. He has been lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.

The charges against Mikosz are merely accusations. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The investigation is being conducted jointly between the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department and the Rockford Police Department.
