On Saturday February 16, 2013 Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies were in the area of 3026 Bauer Dr, Machesney Park, Illinois at approximately 7:50P.M.on an un-related investigation. The deputies smelled a strong odor of fresh marijuana in the area. The deputies called for a narcotic detection dog and a Rockford Police K-9 Unit responded and directed the deputies to 3026 Bauer Dr, where it was determined that the marijuana smell was coming from. The smell was coming from inside of the residence. Deputies at the scene observed a male inside of the residence. He refused to come to the door and the deputies observed that he had an axe in his hands and began to close the blinds on the windows. The deputies believed that the subject was destroying evidence and they forced entry to the home and the subject was detained. He was identified as 36yr old Ryan A. Novak. A search of the residence was subsequently conducted and over 15lbs of suspected marijuana was recovered along with over 100 suspected marijuana plants. Novak was charged with Violation of the Cannabis Control Act. He was lodged in jail. The charges against Novak are merely accusations. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
