Information: SHOOTING/ WANTED SUSPECT

 On the early morning of Sunday September 9, 2012 a fatal shooting took place inside of a vehicle on the Illinois Tollway near South Beloit, Illinois. The Illinois State Police is handling the shooting. A suspect vehicle was identified and Officers of the South Beloit Police Department and the Rockton Illinois Police Department became involved in a chase which ended up in the area of Springfield and School St. in Rockford. The suspect vehicle crashed. A white male got out of the vehicle and ran on foot, pursued by the South Beloit and Rockton Officers. As the suspect fled he turned and fired at least one round at the pursuing Officers. The Officers were not injured and did not return fire. The suspect was able to flee and has not been apprehended. A search of the area involving multiple law enforcement agencies was conducted, coordinated by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Police. The vehicle which crashed was found to contain the body of a female, who has not yet been identified, who is believed to be the shooting victim from the tollway. A suspect has been identified as being Kody R. Walsh (w/m DOB 10-16-89/ 22yrs old) of Rockford. He is wanted on a warrant on an un-related Domestic Battery Warrant. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
